Everyday after his nap, my 3 1/2 year old wants a snack. (Yes, he still naps, praise the Lord!) I love making a smoothie because it provides a lot of nourishment and vitamins while not ruining his dinner. Here is a “milkshake” that I will make as a treat. The bonus is that it’s actually an extremely healthy drink! If your kids (or you) are put off by the green color, you can omit the green powder until everyone has become more accustomed to “strange” things to eat. Enjoy!
16 oz raw milk
1/2 C. raw (sprouted is best) almonds
1/8 C. coconut oil
1 T. raw honey
1 very ripe banana
1 scoop of superfood/green powder
1/4 tsp. pure vanilla extract
handful of ice
combine milk and almonds in a blender on high until the almonds are completely pulverized – about a minute. add coconut oil, honey, banana, green food and vanilla and blend to incorporate. add the ice, blend a bit longer, pour into glasses and serve! this makes enough for the two of us.
*ps – unless I am baking, I rarely measure, so don’t be afraid to eyeball the measurements.
*also, be creative and add anything that you would like! I have done raw egg yolk, chia seed, molasses, organic cocoa powder, and flax meal.
